Draft Margin is for authors to show their books and share their writing. It is not to be used for harm of any kind. Different views, in fiction and out of it, are welcome; using a site to hurt people is not.
What we act on
You may not use Draft Margin for any of these, and a site that does is suspended or deleted:
- Spam, scams, or phishing: sites made to sell, advertise or trick rather than to show an author’s work; links planted for search engines; lying about who you are to steal from or harm anyone.
- Pretending to be someone else: a site in another author’s name, or registering an address in someone else’s name to sell it to them.
- Someone else's writing or images: publishing work you have no right to, beyond what the law allows for quotation, review or parody.
- Illegal or harmful content, including:
- threats of violence, or using a site to plan it;
- any material that sexualises or exploits children, which we report to the authorities;
- calling for the extermination, domination or oppression of people;
- harassing people, or publishing someone’s private details to harass them;
- malware, spyware or phishing pages;
- anything else that is illegal where we operate.
- Attacking the service: getting round its security or its safety limits, collecting data from sites that are not yours, or overloading it.
No list can cover everything, so we judge by its spirit: Draft Margin is not to be used to harm anyone, in mind, body, purse or reputation.
How to report a site
Every site’s footer has a Report this site link, or you can use the report form directly. Say which site, what is wrong and where you saw it; the address of the page helps most. If you are not sure it breaks the rules, report it anyway.
You do not have to give your name or email address. If you do, we may write to ask more or to tell you what we did. We never tell the author who reported them.
Copyright notices
If a site publishes your work without your permission, the report form is enough: choose “Someone else's writing or images”. For a formal notice, write to [email protected] with:
- your name and how to reach you, and, if you act for the owner, whom you act for;
- the work that has been copied;
- the exact address of each page that copies it;
- a statement that you believe, in good faith, that the use is not allowed by the owner or the law, and that what you say in the notice is accurate.
If we take something down because of a notice, the author is told why. An author who believes it was removed by mistake can write to [email protected], saying what was removed and why it was theirs to publish, and we will look again.
What happens next
- A person reads every report. We decide on the evidence: what the site shows and what you tell us. We look at a site’s private content or its Members’ reading only when what we already have is serious but not conclusive.
- If a site breaks this policy, we suspend it: every address on it shows a holding page, and its author sees our reason on signing in. A site used for serious harm may be deleted at once, and reported to the authorities.
- If you think we got it wrong about your site, write to [email protected]. We will look at it again and tell you what we decide.
Authorities
Authorities, and anyone who needs to reach us about illegal content, can write to [email protected].
